Our confidence in SPX’s operational initiatives increased dramatically a few years later as it detailed how the company incorporated the 80/20 principle in its efforts, including segmenting products by profitability and disproportionately investing in high-value product lines like pumps, valves and mixers for food and beverage and industrial end markets. We first initiated a position in flow control equipment maker SPX Flow in late 2015, in part because we thought its food and beverage business had attractive secular growth potential, but largely because we believed the company had been poorly run for many years under prior management, creating a bloated cost structure that the new, more operationally focused CEO vowed to improve. Furthermore, numerous companies have seen dramatic improvement in organic growth and profit margins by shifting resources away from less profitable areas of their business to focus on these key customers and product lines. It’s particularly relevant in business where, upon close examination and careful allocation of expenses, companies will usually find that about 80% of profits come from about 20% of customers, as well as about 20% of their products. Since its discovery in 1906 by Italian economist Vilfredo Pareto, the 80/20 principle has been found to hold true in many areas–income and wealth distribution, software bugs and even sports, such as the 2007-2008 NBA season where the top 20% of players accounted for 79.5% of all points scored. The 80/20 principle, also referred to as the Pareto Principle, is the idea that roughly 80% of outputs come from about 20% of inputs. Start by checking the frost dates in your area. ![]() Here’s what you should do before planting your Zinnias: Step 1: Know exactly when to plant your Zinnias. Preparing To Plant ZinniasĪfter deciding which type you want to grow, you can start the preparation process. They roll inwards towards the center of the flower, resulting in a unique flower form. The petals of cactus-flowered Zinnias are longer than the normal types. Compared to a semi-double, the center of the flower is not exposed. If a Zinnia is fully double-flowered, it has more than one row of petals. You will know if a Zinnia is semi-double if the center is visible and exposed and the flower has more than one row of petals. You will also find that the center is exposed. Single-FloweredĪs the name suggests, this type of Zinnia only has one row of petals. You can identify them depending on the number of rows of the flower’s petals. There are generally four Zinnia varieties based on their flower heads. Zinnias have a vast selection of colors, including red, pink, orange, yellow, purple, lavender, green, and white like a daisy. This allows them to require only the most basic garden preparation to grow.įull sun and well-draining soil are all you’ll ever need, and you will have flowers blooming in a matter of weeks. The special thing about Zinnias is that they have pointy seeds, like an arrowhead. You plant the seeds, and then they become flowers and back to seeds again very quickly. Zinnias will naturally thrive if the soil is well-draining. Some gardeners do not prepare their soil at all they just scatter the seeds in places they want them to grow and water them daily. In fact, they may be the easiest flower to grow. Zinnias are drought and heat tolerant, making them perfect for summer. The insects will be attracted to the Zinnias instead of your beans, saving them from infestation. To take advantage of this, you can plant your Zinnias alongside your beans or other vegetables. They attract bees and all kinds of insects in their growing season. Pick a vibrant vase that will complement the bright colors of Zinnias, and it will surely bring warmth to your living room. When properly cut and put in a vase, Zinnias can last weeks. If you love freshly cut flowers to bring life and color into your house, you must have Zinnias in your garden. Here are reasons you might want to add this to your garden: 1. On the other hand, those in Zones 9 to 11 will grow them as perennials.īecause they require only minimal care, even beginner gardeners will have success growing Zinnias. If you’re from regions with a USDA Hardiness Zone Rating 2 to 8, expect to grow these flowers as annuals. These warm-season plants thrive in hot climates but can survive in almost any growing condition. Do this if you want your Zinnias to bloom sooner. You can also start planting the seed indoors, about 30 to 40 days before the day of the last frost. Ideally, plant them in spring around the time you would plant carrots. When to plant Zinnias? Wait until after frost before you start planting zinnias. In other words, you’ll have the full package when you decide to grow zinnias. Zinnia plants are not only heavy bloomers but also super easy to grow. ![]() Because of the wonderful burst of colors, they add to any flower garden, Zinnias are popular annuals among gardeners. ![]() Tip 3: Create A Cybersecurity-Conscious Cultureīuilding a cybersecurity-focused culture can cut down cyberattack risks drastically. That way, when Microsoft’s Patch Tuesday comes around, Dell EMC’s Hybrid Cloud Team makes the update process painless for their end customer. Additionally, Dell EMC feels they offer an incredible amount of value to customers deploying these large, and many times complex, solutions by finding bugs and sorting out patch issues well before a customer gets their hands on it. Capitalizing on this, Dell EMC continues to work with Microsoft to deliver an on-prem hybrid cloud for Microsoft shops. Of the three types of clouds (private, public, and hybrid), the largest growing seems to be the hybrid version. Now there are hundreds of organizations that are either cloud-first (the company begins and remains mainly in the cloud) or cloud-centric (the company still has on-prem gear but runs a majority of its business through the cloud). Organizations weren’t just using the Cloud as a source of bulk storage or a replication target, they soon began to host several of their applications in the Cloud. As time went on, the security concerns began to fade. ![]() At first it was seen as a source of bulk cheap storage that wasn’t safe. There's occasional cleverness to the dialogue, but so much of it just feels unremarkable and downright uninteresting. There's no substantial depth to most characters, and they mostly fill familiar action-thriller crime flick archetypes. Richard Brandes doesn't have a lot of credits to his name in that capacity, with one of the few others being this picture's sequel. ![]() The biggest question, though, is of course the writing. The cinematography and sound design are crisp and clear, the orchestration of every shot and scene is suitable - honestly, in a lot of ways, 'Martial laws seems pretty well made. David Carradine, Philip Tan, John Fujioka - and yes, even Rothrock - all show glimmers of real nuance in their acting that's a far cry from the tomfoolery we saw in, say, 'Honor and glory,' or 'Tiger claws.' Even when performances are overdone (for better or worse I'm looking at you, Vincent Craig Dupree), it's unmistakably intentional, and though he has a small part, it's always a minor joy to see Professor Toru Tanaka. For all the flair here and there, including sequencing and otherwise editing that echoes that cheeky tenor, it almost seems like the production is played straight, declining the greater bombast we're used to seeing from her and those with whom she shares the screen. Maybe it's director Steve Cohen's guidance of the cast that we have to thank, but the acting feels unexpectedly restrained and sober compared to other Rothrock films. Through it all, I'm surprised to find myself thinking that 'Martial law' is, in some ways, better than I anticipated. Most prominent actor Chad McQueen, playing actual protagonist Thompson, really does look like a Joe Piscopo impersonator a scene set in a nightclub features a very 80s hair metal band and song (accordingly Tempest, performing "Sauza" - I won't lie, I liked it) and there's a brusqueness to the execution of some action sequences that somewhat defies suspension of disbelief. From excessive sound cues (such "whooshes" as fists or feet flying through the air or hitting their marks), to massively done-up and visually distinct hair, makeup, or costume design from small, gratuitous flourishes, to an enjoyable but curious score from Elliot Solomon that oscillates between guitar fireworks, fanfare that wouldn't sound out of place opening 'Saturday Night Live,' and synth-driven ambient pieces - there's a lot going on here. It's an odd mixture at all times, and 'Martial law' doesn't try hard to convince us that it's any different. She's not uncommonly no more than second fiddle in her own starring vehicles - and yet for all that, the fight choreography is broadly well done. Her films are generally blunt and over the top in most significant aspects, including writing and acting if not also direction, and often ham-handed and inauthentic on top. ![]() I've yet to watch a movie starring Cynthia Rothrock that wasn't rife with peculiarities, and at that, usually all the same ones. ![]() Roof achor points are usually a threaded "hook" or "eye" screw, a nice heavy duty one at least 4 inches long. The "ground end" of the wires typically connect to points on your roof. If you choose wire, use a stranded galanized wire that won't rust. Dacron is widely available at ham stores, ham coax & wire supplies like The Wireman ect. Cotton rope will rot from getting wet & the sun ect.Nylon ski rope will experience UV sun rotting and break down. Your installation will be more or less permanent. Dacron is the only synthetic cord that is impervious to UV rays from the sun meaning the sun will not rot it over time. Dacron is what you see hams using to support their wire antennas. Smaller gauge rope will do but you should use only Dacron. This will keep the ring in place and keep it from sliding down the mast below the point where you need to locate it. You may have to drill a hole through the mast pipe and insert a bolt or something. Then it has smaller holes drilled in it for attaching the guy wires. Probably need to locate the mast-guy connection about 3/4's of the way towards the top.Ī manufactured mast guy ring is a circular piece of metal with a 1 & 1/4" hole in the middle so it fits around standard mast pipe. RS should have them although I don't have a catalog number for you. Hi MB, there are guy wire kits available at places where you can obtain antenna hardware. Instead of starting as large sheets, the Polycarbonate material is melted down to a liquid and injected into a metal mold at high pressure to form the base shape of a lens. Over the years, we worked alongside some of the top lens material manufacturers on the development of an optical grade, injection molded Polycarbonate lens. ![]() Coatings that get added to the surface meant to protect the material are stretched out during this process, making the lenses easier to scratch and delaminate.Įven worse, while Bent Sheet Polycarbonate does have optics superior to TAC, neither material can be used in the production of prescription eyeglasses and, for that reason, aren’t considered to be “optical grade.” This process is not only its namesake but also its shortcoming. That’s pretty much a fancy way of saying factories have workarounds to make TAC into a lens that is optically barely passable.īent Sheet Polycarbonate is a rigid, durable material produced in large sheets, cut into rectangles, and then bent to a curve in a heated, hydraulic press. The problem is that the visual acuity of TAC is so bad that most manufacturers produce the lenses at only a 1.0mm center thickness to reduce the amount of inherent haze and aberrations in the material. It is a widely available, inexpensive material. Many “affordable” brands still use Triacetate lenses today. When Fuse was formed nearly 10 years ago, there were two primary lens materials available: Triacetate (TAC) or “Bent Sheet” Polycarbonate. What those brands don’t do is stand behind their products and their quality. If you just want replacement lenses, they work. In fact, if you made it here, you are one of a small group to be in the know. It’s no wonder most people don’t know that this product exists. We probably don’t need to tell you that selling sunglasses is their priority and that selling replacement lenses to extend the life of the sunglasses they just sold to you ISN’T. They spend an unimaginable amount of money to advertise their newest products - and they do it all without mention of replacement lenses. ![]() They even invade your local fishing and surf shops.
